The Deadmines

From the BlizzCon preview build

The Classic dungeon in Westfall, and the clearest case of the itemization pass: nine bosses and 45 reported drops, 39 of them already seen in the beta - far more than Classic ever had. One of them still matters at level 60.

Where this comes from

This dungeon is open in the beta and people are running it. What follows comes from the beta client and from reports by those who were inside - not from a Blizzard announcement. Anything several sources report the same way independently is in; where they disagree, the disagreement sits under the open questions instead of a decision we are in no position to make. A build can change all of it tomorrow.

The Defias Leather set

Five pieces, and a bonus structure Classic did not have

Reported, not confirmed

  • Bonuses at two, three, four and five pieces

Read from the beta client: (2) +5 Arcane Resistance. (3) +15 attack power against humanoids. (4) a 5% chance on melee attacks from behind to cause a bleed. (5) Daggers +1. In Classic the set paid out at every second piece and carried none of this.

  • Twenty-six Classic sets were rebuilt the same way

The Defias set is not a special case. Build 1.60.1 changes twenty-six armour sets from Classic to thresholds at two, three, four, five and six pieces instead of every second one. That is the systemic change behind every "old dungeon, new reason to run it" story.

  • Nobody can currently say which boss drops what

The client table that links an encounter to its drops is empty - 208 bytes, no records. Loot is handed out server-side, as are quest rewards and vendor stock. Every boss-by-boss table for an old dungeon you can find right now is therefore either the Classic assignment carried over, or somebody's loot log. Both are worth something; neither is datamined truth, and we do not print one as if it were.

Open questions

  • The bleed value. One writeup gives 70 damage over 5 seconds, another 75 - same bonus, two numbers.
  • Which encounters drop which pieces. Reports name Captain Greenskin and Edwin VanCleef for two of them and trash for the other three, but that is the Classic assignment.
  • Whether any of it survives to launch

Loot

No drop data exists - the beta caps at level 20

  • Unique boss drop Blue quality - confirmed
  • Set piece Not announced
  • Recipe or blueprint Dungeon bosses drop these - confirmed
  • Terrain or creature effect System confirmed, items not

Unique dungeon-boss drops are blue in Forever - that much is confirmed. The rows above are the shape the table will take, not entries.

Items

Per dungeon, not per boss - deliberately. Which boss drops what is not in the client; the item itself is. A list without an assignment claims exactly what can be backed up.

  • First Mate Band Finger New in Forever Item level 22, +6 Strength, +2 Stamina, requires level 17. Half of the Partners in Crime set - the other half requires level 60.
  • Rockslicer Two hand, axe New in Forever Carries a new active effect: it opens copper, tin, silver and iron veins without the Mining profession and without a pick - reported as about 30 uses, and only on the lower-level nodes. Reported to drop from Rhahk’Zor.
  • Ogre Loincloth Legs New in Forever Reported as new in Forever.
  • Staff of Westfall Two hand, staff New in Forever Quest reward. Carries spell damage and healing plus movement speed, but only in Elwynn, Westfall, Redridge and the Deadmines - one of the clearest examples of Forever binding an effect to a place.
