Ruins of Lordaeron

From the BlizzCon preview build

Inside the ruined capital, where a necromancer commands the Scourge. Horde-side. One of the two dungeons open in beta week one.

Level 15-20 In beta range

Why it is these ruins and not new ones

Forever is set after the Forsaken Kingdom campaign in Warcraft III Reforged and before Molten Core - so the Forsaken have just taken Lordaeron and dug the Undercity beneath it, and Ragnaros is still undisturbed. A levelling dungeon in that capital, reachable by a Horde group before level 20, is the clearest statement Blizzard has made about what "new storylines in the old world" is meant to mean. One warning on the name: players who came in later know Ruins of Lordaeron as a Burning Crusade arena above the Undercity. That is a different place, and its guides do not apply here. The background is on our page about [the Forsaken Kingdom campaign](/lore/forsaken-kingdom).

Where this comes from

This dungeon is open in the beta and people are running it. What follows comes from the beta client and from reports by those who were inside - not from a Blizzard announcement. Anything several sources report the same way independently is in; where they disagree, the disagreement sits under the open questions instead of a decision we are in no position to make. A build can change all of it tomorrow.

Rath'mael

Final boss - level 20 in the beta

Reported, not confirmed

  • Flamestrike can be interrupted

The reports converge here: his melee is manageable, the area Flamestrike is not, and an interrupt order is set before the pull.

Source: Beta guides and client data, build 1.60.1.69913 - reported the same way by several sources
  • He is fought away from his altar

Guides recommend pulling him back into the previous room for space - the altar area is described as too tight for a fight with an area spell in it.

Open questions

  • Blizzard has published nothing about this encounter - all of it comes from the beta client
  • Loot. Mirror of Rath'mael, Frostbane Treads and Coldspire Staff are reported under his name, with values that differ between sources.

Loot

  • Mirror of Rath'mael Off hand, shield Reported the same way repeatedly 547 armor, +4 Strength, +4 Stamina, +3 Intellect
  • Coldspire Staff Two-hand, staff Reported the same way repeatedly +13 Spirit
  • Frostbane Treads Feet, cloth Reported the same way repeatedly No values reported

Where this comes from matters: which boss drops what is not in the client. The table for it (CollectableSourceEncounter) is empty and loot is handed out server-side. The assignment below therefore comes from players who ran the dungeon and reported what dropped - several sites carry the same figures, which argues against coincidence but does not prove they are independent of each other. The item itself is read from the client. Where it says the values differ, sources give different figures; take the name, not the number.

Quests
