Since 29 October, 06:51 UTC, the article carries a new modification date. There is no note about the change. If anything, the opposite: the "[Updated 10/22]" note about Roleplay-PvP is gone, and the URL no longer carries it either. Comparing it with the archived version from 22 October shows what changed.
What is new
- Uniform descriptions. Every ruleset is described again in the same pattern. Normal: "…fight other players at your own discretion". PvP: "you are almost always at risk of being attacked by opposing players". Roleplay: "strict naming conventions and behavior rules".
- Roleplay-PvP is on the list. It gets an entry of its own: strict naming and behavior rules as on Roleplay, and at the same time "almost always at risk of being attacked by opposing characters".
- Plural for faction balance. That paragraph now says "For the PvP rulesets", where it used to say "ruleset". The actual rule that an account may play only one faction there still names only "the PvP ruleset". The list of rulesets that allow both factions still reads "Normal, Roleplaying, and Hardcore". Roleplay-PvP is on neither list.
Blizzard explained the plural on the podcast the same day: balance runs in each ruleset separately and aims for 50/50. Whether Roleplay-PvP limits an account to one faction is still open.
What was already there and missing here
Two sentences were already in the 22 October version:
- Battlegrounds across rulesets: "Battlegrounds may include players from other rulesets, with the exception of Hardcore." You cannot group across rulesets, but a battleground can bring players from several together. Hardcore stays on its own.
- Paused character creation: if one faction gets too strong on a ruleset, Blizzard can temporarily pause new characters of that faction. Season of Discovery players will know this.
What this changes here
The rulesets page now cites the revised article, the plural on faction balance, and the podcast that explains it. It also covers battlegrounds across rulesets and paused character creation now.
