The raid
The Barrow Deeps are a 10-player raid at level 60, presented by lead software engineer Nora Mills at the BlizzCon 2026 "What's Next" panel. Blizzard's raid overview of 20 October supplies the number that was missing until then: eight bosses. A prison beneath Kalimdor whose dark passages have been opened.
Who was imprisoned here
Since 20 October Blizzard says it outright: the prison held Illidan Stormrage for ten thousand years. Before that it only spoke of an infamous demon hunter, and the video of 19 October of "Azeroth's most infamous betrayer".
Blizzard describes the raid's business like this: finding out what became of those left behind, and how the wardens plan to contain the danger below. ⚠ An Illidan appearance is still not confirmed - Illidan is the former prisoner, not an announced boss.
Three entrances
Unusual for a Classic raid: the Barrow Deeps have three entrances, and since 20 October we know where. They connect to Mount Hyjal, to Winterspring and to Blackmaw Hold, the dungeon in Azshara. That answers a question our Blackmaw Hold page had left open: the furbolg city's tunnels do lead into the raid.
Rewards
New tier sets are confirmed. Blizzard also teases a legendary reward that has not been revealed. No name, no questline, no requirements so far.
Date and lockout
The Barrow Deeps unlock on December 9, 2026, together with Hyjal Summit (20 players) and Onyxia's Lair (40 players). According to Blizzard, all raids are currently planned to reset weekly. The overview names no attunement for the Barrow Deeps - it asks for one only for Onyxia's Lair.
Still open
Boss names, mechanics, difficulty tiers and loot. The beta was capped at level 30 and closes on 23 October - the raid could not be tested there, and nothing on this page has been checked against a client.
