The raid
The Barrow Deeps are a 10-player raid at maximum level, presented by lead software engineer Nora Mills at the BlizzCon 2026 "What's Next" panel. The theme is night elven: a cave system beneath the mountain with a corruption seeping through it.
Who was imprisoned here
Blizzard speaks of an infamous demon hunter once held in this complex. Anyone who knows the Warcraft III lore thinks of Illidan Stormrage immediately — he spent ten thousand years in exactly that place.
⚠ An Illidan appearance in the raid is not confirmed. Blizzard made the allusion but announced no encounter. That is where it stands.
Three entrances
Unusual for a Classic raid: the Barrow Deeps have three entrances, one of them on Mount Hyjal. That ties the raid directly to the new endgame leveling zone and breaks from the usual single-portal pattern.
Rewards
New tier sets are confirmed. Blizzard also teases a legendary reward that has not been revealed. No name, no questline, no requirements so far.
Date
The Barrow Deeps unlock on December 9, 2026, together with Hyjal Summit (20 players) and Onyxia's Lair (40 players). That makes three raid unlocks on one day, two of which are entirely new.
Still open
Nothing on boss count, encounter names, difficulty tiers, lockout cadence or attunement. The beta starting September 17 runs with a level cap of 30, so the raid cannot be tested there.
